Amazon’s Echo speaker has produced lasting impacts on the market of the connected home. According to a new report, Amazon is prepping a new portable version of its Echo speaker, which will launch in just a few weeks.
Based on the report, the new Amazon Echo speaker will be compact in size, made for easy portability. While the exact dimensions aren’t provided, WSJ says it will fit into the palm of one’s hand. The speaker will supposedly charge on a dock and respond to commands only when a button is pushed. This would help the speaker save battery by taking away the always-on capabilities that the standard Echo speaker has, thus eliminating the need to be plugged into a wall socket. We also have to consider the fact that the Echo speaker requires internet connectivity. Will it acquire this connection from your smartphone? The idea of a portable speaker like this raises lots of flags. Hopefully we’ll find out more on its functionality in the weeks ahead.
The portable version will have to face some tough competition from Bluetooth portable speakers currently on the market, many in which provide high-quality sound and high durability. However, if you’re looking for the extra functionality that a voice assistant provides, all inside a portable package, the new Amazon Echo speaker might win you over. Lots will depend on the price tag and if Amazon want’s to hit a home run, they must consider this as an important factor. It would also be nice of Amazon to remove its invite system, which was in place for the first few batches of original Echo speakers. Our fingers are crossed.
