4K has been steadily growing over the past few years, and it really looks like 2016 may be the year when the technology firmly takes hold inside consumers’ homes. With that in mind, Roku does not want to be left behind. After seeing smart TV shipments grow from 0% to 8% in the United States just in 2015, Roku is looking to keep that momentum going by announcing the first Roku 4K Smart TVs. Roku will be partnering with Chinese manufacturer TCL for the first set of 2016, with additional Roku TV partners expected to release models later this year.

To make your TV picture look even more stunning, Roku also announced the release of Roku TV HDR reference design enabling TV partners to incorporate HDR technology into future 4K UHD Roku TV models. Roku is also partnering with Dolby to implement support for Dolby Vision HDR into the reference design. While HDR does not actually affect the amount of pixels you see on the TV screen, it enables a brighter picture with more contrast to make the picture really pop.

What makes these new additions even better, is they are going to be available to even more consumers this year in more ways than ever! After Roku’s successful expansion into Canada last spring, it is looking continue its international push by bringing Roku Smart TVs to Mexico this year. On top of this Roku is expecting its OEM partners to release 60 new Roku TV models in 2016.

It should be an exciting year for you Roku fans out there. Let us know if you are going to be picking up one of these fancy new UHD Roku TVs!
