Samsung has been working on a 360-degree camera for a while now. The name is “Project Beyond VR“, and it was originally shown off about a year ago, and again this year at CES 2016. However, Samsung may be launching a consumer version soon.
Samsung has filed a trademark in South Korea for the name “Gear 360”, which would fit perfectly for this project, or possibly a more consumer friendly version. For further proof, the trademark mentions cameras and photography as its primary product category.
A 360-degree camera would be the perfect companion for Samsung Gear VR. Users would be able to take their own 360-degree photos or videos and view them right away in their Gear VR.
