Earlier today, Samsung took to the floor at CES to unveil its first true smart refrigerator. It’s called the “Family Hub”, and features a 21.5-inch Full HD display, a barcode reader and multiple inwards-facing cameras, which enable you to tune into the video stream using your smartphone to take a peek at what’s inside while you’re doing your grocery shop.
The fridge records every product placed within and sends you push notifications when you’re running low on favoured foods. It also tells you if there’re any good deals available, so you can save a few bucks to help pay for your shiny new Hub. If you live in Korea, you’ll even have the ability to order goods for home delivery right from its door.
That’s not all the built-in screen can do, though. The refrigerator hooks up to your home Wi-Fi network, so you can browse the Internet, manage your family’s food intake and even leave important notes and messages on the display. There’s also a couple of door-mounted speakers that can be used to amplify audio from a radio station or Bluetooth device.
Unfortunately, Samsung did not give any information with regards to pricing or availability, but it’s more than likely that we’ll see a South Korean launch first, followed by a North American and European release.
