Snapchat users will no longer be able to purchase themed Lenses from the Lens Store after this Friday, according to a statement from the app’s makers.
At the time of writing, there’s over 20 paid-for Snapchat Lenses to choose from, but many of the amusing face-squishing filters will be gone very soon.
Speaking to Business Insider, a Snapchat spokesperson has explained that the Lens Store, which first arrived in November, will be shut down so the group can focus on ‘advertising business’.
Despite the decision, ‘tens of thousands’ of themed Lenses are said to have been purchased on a daily basis, costing $.99 each.
Speaking via a blog post, Snapchat has said:
“This Friday we will be closing the Lens Store. You can purchase Lenses that you’d like to use again and again before Friday at 12:01AM PT. You will be able to use the Lenses you have purchased after the Lens Store closes, and the ones available for free every day!”
According to reports, Snapchat will continue to sell sponsored Lenses to businesses. Apple’s Beats became the first consumer product brand to team up with Snapchat last year to offer fans unique filters.
If your heart’s set on warping your face with a vomit-inducing rainbow, then the time to splash the cash is now.
