Talk Android Apps of the Week: January 10, 2016

It’s Sunday, the time of the week when Talk Android brings you a report on some of the very best applications we’ve been using over the course of the past seven days. Today we’re focusing our attention on a great TV-tracking tool, an amazing audiobook service, a gorgeous widget and last, but not least, an engaging survival game.

TVShow Time

If you’re a bit of a TV addict, like me, you probably like to keep track of the shows you’ve watched, together with the episode you’ve reached owing to all the reruns and repeats being aired. For a while I was using the standard Memo application on my Galaxy S6 Edge+ to record this data in a checklist, but things started to get out a little of hand — so I went on a mission to see if I could find an app dedicated to tracking shows.

After a short rummage through the Play Store, I discovered this absolute gem. TVShow Time is an all-in-one application, which enables you to create a comprehensive list of all the programs you’ve seen or are currently watching. The app will also drop you a notification five minutes before to the next episode of a series you’re following hits the TV screen.

That’s about all there is to say about TVShow Time. It’s a must-have for all TV viewers that like to blast through series’ and keep up to date with all the latest episodes of their favourite shows.

Audible

The second application we’re looking at this week is great for anyone who would like to read more, but just doesn’t have the time to do so. Audible is a fully-fledged audiobook service, which houses more than 150,000 titles, and they’re all free to listen to when you register.

Audible bundles many of the greatest features you’d expect to find in any audiobook streaming app, including chapter navigation, bookmarking, adjustable narration speeds, button-free modes and multitasking for background listening. You even have the facility to remotely transfer books from one device to another when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

You can even earn badges to motivates you to listen to audiobooks more frequently. Each time you pass a significant milestone, such as listening to 35-minutes worth of dictation, you will be awarded an achievement.

ClockQ

Next we’re looking at a very simple, yet extremely elegant widget. ClockQ is a clean, customizable clock that can be positioned anywhere on the homescreen of your Android-powered smartphone or tablet. It provides you with all the information you need to be aware of whilst using your device, including date, time, weather and remaining battery life.

That’s not all, though. There’s also a vast range of customization options, which really allow you to change the look and feel of this widget. You’ll be able to alter the colors, transparency, scale, shadow, layout and font in order to create a clock that blends into the theme of your handset.

The Tower

Up last this week, we’re looking at a neat survival game, entitled The Tower. The overall concept of the game is simple. All you have to do is tap your device’s display to align the blocks in the hope building the tallest tower you possibly can. The more blocks you add, the smaller they get. Once the tower collapses, it’s game over. Progress is tracked by the height of the tower and is stored on a leaderboard, which you can compare with friends.
