LG will skip the Nexus program this year

According to a new report, LG is planning to skip the Nexus program this year. Instead, LG will focus on improving the popularity of its own mobile brand.

There’s no doubt that LG is struggling in the mobile division right now. The LG G4 was a bit of a disappointment to some, and that’s why LG put its absolute best in the G5. Hopefully, the G5 and LG’s new mid-range phones can spark a turnaround.

Today we received word that in order to focus more on improving their own mobile products, LG has decided to take a break from Google’s Nexus program. Therefore, don’t expect a successor to the Nexus 5 lineup this year. By producing a successor to the Nexus 5X, LG would be competing against itself. While Google would love to partner with LG again for this year’s Nexus device, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to turnout this way.

During MWC 2016 in Barcelona, an LG spokesman said that they’re very happy with the relationship they have with Google, but the program requires lots of resources. LG believes it can use the resources more efficiently in its own products. LG may put these resources towards a successor of the G Flex line or an update to the LG V10 later this year.
