We’re just hours into Android N being public and Google has already published factory images for various devices. The first version of the Android N Developer Preview can be put on the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, and Pixel C. But, if you plan on installing factory images for them, please remember that this is still a preview and things are being worked on around the clock by Google.
As we approach Google I/O 2016 in May and then the new version’s official release later this year, expect to see the Android N Developer Preview updated many times. Google is going to be testing features, squashing bugs, and implementing other changes that may or may not be noticeable.
Since you’ll be testing software and putting your device at risk, Google has the Android SDK Preview License Agreement composed for you to read and agree to. This ensures that anyone who installs a factory image to get on the Android N Developer Preview knows they’re using a product with potential issues.
Our Brad Ward put together simple directions to install factory images on your device. The only different step is that you’ll be using the files obtained from the list above rather than Marshmallow-related ones.
Don’t have a Nexus device or too worried to install the Android N Developer Preview? Fear not! The first Android N wallpaper is already available for you to download and use on your phone, tablet, or computer.
