LG-LOGO

LG has just announced the arrival of two new models in its affordable K series, the entry-level K5 and the higher-specced K8 LTE. First revealed at CES 2016 back in January, the K5 and K8 LTE will launch in their respective markets later this week. LG_K5The K5 has a metallic body, with the power button on the right of the display, and the volume controls on the left. The hardware isn’t much to shout about, but priced correctly, it could do well in its target markets of Europe, CIS and Latin America. In Mexico, the K5 will be known as the Q6.

LG_K8_LTEThe K8 LTE, however, offers a slightly better range of specifications, taking some design cues from last year’s G4 flagship. Sporting a woven rear panel with rear mounted power and volume controls, the K8 LTE also features 2.5G Arc Glass which gives the display a curved-ish appearance. Unlike the K5, the K8 LTE is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and will be available in the Asia, Africa, the Middle East, CIS and Latin America.

Specifications:

  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • MediaTek 6735 quad-core @ 1.3GHz
  • 1.5GB RAM (1GB in Latin markets)
  • 8GB or 32GB Internal storage depending on the region

As yet, there’s no word on pricing, but I’m sure more details will be revealed once the handsets launch later this week. What do you think about the low-end LG K5 and K8 LTE handsets?
