It looks like those in India could be getting their hands on the BlackBerry Priv soon. The company recently sent out invitations, requesting that the India press join BlackBerry for the Priv’s launch later this month.
The invitations don’t say much, other than that the press event will take place on January 28 in New Delhi.
BlackBerry’s first Android smartphone made many skeptical, but seems to have become a hot seller. It originally went up for pre-order for US and Canadian markets in October, and then finally went up for sale in November 2015.
The BlackBerry Priv may have not been as much as a success as a new Galaxy device, it has been successful enough for the Canadian-based company to look at launching another BlackBerry Android-based smartphone this year. The company is even committed to using Android exclusively for its 2016 smartphone lineup.
As a quick refresher, the BlackBery Priv is sporting a lot of impressive specifications:
- 5.4-Inch dual-curved display with 1440 x 2560 resolution
- Slide-out keyboard
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core (2 x cores @ 1.8GHz + 4 x cores @ 1.44GHz)
- Adreno 418 GPU
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB Internal storage
- MicroSD card support (up to 2TB)
- DTEK privacy warning system
- 18MP Schneider-Kreuznach rear camera with OIS
- 2MP Front camera
- Battery: 3,410mAh
- Android 5.1.1
The smartphone’s price is difficult to swallow at $699, though it’s available at a subsidizes price from AT&T and could see a hefty discount at some point in February.
We’ll be sure to provide more details on the BlackBerry Priv’s India launch in the coming days.
