Nintendo’s first mobile game ‘Miitomo’ to launch this March, exec confirms

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima recently revealed that the company’s new mobile game, Miitomo, will make an official debut in March.

Kimishima spoke to Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbu, revealing that the game would have a March launch. The Nintendo executive didn’t offer any details on pricing, though the game is expected to be available to download for free and supported via in-app purchases.

We don’t know much about Miitomo right now, but the premise is that users will be able to communicate with each other using Mii avatars. We’re not sure how that will play out exactly, but DeNA CEO Isao Moriyasu has high hopes for it.

“Communicating with friends who actually look like your friends in real life is a distinctly different feeling from text-based communication,” Moriyasu said.

Expect to see a lot more from Nintendo this year, as the company is looking to launch five mobile games by the time March 2017 rolls around.

We’re not sure what else Nintendo plans to launch, although they are partnering with Niantic Labs to bring augmented reality game Pokémon GO to the market at some point. The title is expected to launch at some point in 2016, but we’re not entirely sure if this is one of the five mobile games Nintendo spoke about launching by March 2017.
