Yesterday a rumor popped up that HTC would be the manufacturer for this year’s Nexus devices. Today, codenames were spotted on Twitter, which may be the first leak associated with the next generation Nexus devices.
According to a ROM developer, HTC is working on two Nexus devices for a 2016 release. One will seemingly replace the Nexus 5X, and sport a slightly smaller 5-inch display. The other, will have a 5.5-inch display, which is the likely successor of the Nexus 6P. The smaller of the two is initially codenamed T50, and the larger has codename T55. If you noticed, both get their codename based on their display size. This doesn’t mean the next generation Nexus devices will be called the Nexus T50 and Nexus T55, their names are just for initial testing.
Now that we have possible codenames, the door for leaks is wide open. Anything containing these numbers will be speculated as Nexus devices. Now it’s a bit early, so take this with a grain of salt. It has also been quite a bit of time since HTC manufactured a Nexus phone; however, HTC did manage to produce the Nexus 9 tablet in 2014. There were also early rumors suggesting that Huawei was interested in making another Nexus device, perhaps a 7-inch tablet. Google is also experimenting with various hardware of its own. Hopefully we’ll find out more pertaining to this year’s Nexus family in the near future.
