DROID Maxx 2 gets updated to Marshmallow on Verizon

Better late than never! DROID Maxx 2 owners on Verizon are now receiving Google’s latest version of its operating system in Marshmallow.

We were expecting the Motorola, or Lenovo handset to get the update a while ago, but the process always seems to drag on when carriers get in the way of things. However, the wait is finally over because units are now receiving the notification to update to Marshmallow.

Unlike some handsets that went straight to Android 6.0.1, the DROID Maxx 2 on Verizon is being updated to version 6.0. It will include all of the latest features from Google including doze mode for battery saving, Now On Tap for contextual awareness, and simplified app permissions to keep you in control of your data. However, it does come at the cost of storage and time you’ll have to put aside for it to completely download and install.

Because the update is so big, make sure you clear out some storage if you’re living on the edge of your memory capacity. The update can’t use up external space provided by a microSD card. You’ll also want to connect to a nearby Wi-Fi network to avoid using your cellular data provided by Verizon. The update is rolling out over-the-air in waves, so everyone should have it by the conclusion of this week. To try to trigger it, head into your device settings under ‘About Phone’ and ‘check for new software updates.’
