If you’re a fan of the traditional stock Android interface, you’ll be glad to hear that Google will be pushing out an update for its Now Launcher through the Play Store over the course of the next few days. In terms of added functionality, the upgrade bundles compatibility for landscape orientation of the home screen, together with a new normalized icon size, which is guaranteed to keep your display looking neat and tidy.
Up until now, Google hasn’t bundled support for landscape orientation of the home screen into any of its final releases of the Android operating system — so it’s safe to say that it came as a surprise when we saw it in the changelog for its Launcher. The feature did make a brief appearance in the Android M previews, but was pulled shortly before the final release of Marshmallow.

Enabling the function couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is pull down from your notification panel and turn on Auto-Rotate, then head into Now Launcher’s settings and set Allow Rotation to ON. Once done, when you return to the home screen and turn your handset lengthways, you will notice that not only your app icons, but the app drawer and notification cards will change orientation, too.

Unfortunately, as with any major update, there are some bugs present. A handful of Nexus 5X owners who received the upgrade early by way of Google App’s beta channel are reporting that the landscape view resulted in a substantial gap appearing in between the favorites tray and on-screen buttons.
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the notification informing you that an update is available for the Google Now Launcher. Once you’ve received it, be sure to let us know how you’re liking the newly-implemented landscape mode by dropping a comment in the section below.
