If super expensive televisions and refrigerators aren’t your thing, the most interesting announcement from Samsung’s CES 2016 press event actually involved Apple.
Samsung revealed that its Gear S2 smartwatch, which will see two new models in February, is going to work with iOS devices sometime this year. Although the Gear S2 runs Tizen OS, the smartwatch does work with select non-Samsung devices. But it’s not too surprising to see that Samsung wants people with said devices to be able to use its smartwatch. Conversely, it’s very surprising to see that Samsung will welcome owners of Apple’s iOS devices to use the Gear S2.
Alanna Cotton, Samsung’s VP of Mobile Computing Marketing, was the one who made the announcement on-stage at CES 2016 to an audience that didn’t exactly react to the news. The room was filled with a bit of dead air with little clapping sprinkled in. Either the room was filled with staunch Samsung fanboys or people realize that those with iOS devices might as well just buy an Apple Watch.
