Lenovo announced a new budget smartphone for the Chinese market. Dubbed the Lemon 3, this handset will prove to be some serious competition for one of Xiaomi’s recently announced smartphones, the Redmi 3.
The Lenovo Lemon 3 features a 5-inch Full HD display, a Snapdragon 616 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It’s also toting a 13-megapixel rear camera, LTE functionality and a 2,750mAh battery. It’s certainly not a bad smartphone for $105.
In contrast, Xiaomi’s Redmi 3 has a 5-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 616 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It’s sporting the same camera optics as the Lemon 3, but has a much larger 4100mAh battery. All of this for a meager $100!
The Chinese market is full of some strange Android smartphones. But, one thing’s for certain: companies like Lenovo, Xiaomi and Huawei are making it quite competitive by offering extremely capable hardware at such a low price point. In fact, if it weren’t for a lack of Play Store Services, in some cases, you would be hard pressed to find many performance differences between, say, the Galaxy Note 5 and some of the more flagship-like devices these companies are bringing out.
Lenovo has been launching some very capable smartphones on the cheap, though the company has recently been the subject of much scrutiny due to the diminishing of the Motorola brand.
The Chinese-based company hasn’t offered any availability details yet, though it’s unlikely that we’ll see the Lemon 3 outside of the Chinese market.
