Nextbit’s Robin, the phone that utilizes the cloud unlike anything before it, will begin shipping to its first Kickstarter backers next month. But, not surprisingly, there is a catch. Those who are backers of the GSM model will receive their Robin before the CDMA model is sent out.
The Robin will begin shipping the its earliest Kickstarter backers on February 16. Others will see their handset ship at the of that month, just as Nextbit had promised. The company was forced to delay shipping the Robin a few weeks later than expected after needing to alter the firmware and not having an adequate amount of an unspecified component.
Transparency is a beautiful thing, and we certainly appreciate that from Nextbit:
We know you want NextNow, and we’re disappointed we can’t get Robin to you any sooner. We want to remain open and straightforward with you about development, which is why we’re telling you as soon as we had enough information to set a new shipment date. We are still working on a date for CDMA backers.
Nextbit’s next step is to go through its latest production units and put finishing touches on software and packaging before the Robin gets into the hands of backers. Oh, the company also revealed that the Robin will indeed ship with Marshmallow.
