At CES 2106, ZTE took the wraps off their new Nubia business unit along with plans to expand into more markets with new devices in the upcoming year. Today the company took another step on that path with the official release of the Nubia Prague S smartphone in the Chinese market. The Prague S is a mid-range phone that is part of Nubia’s Prague series and follows the My Prague model although it is not really a successor.
Although most of the hardware may not be exciting, cutting edge stuff, Nubia did include their Eyeprint ID iris scanner technology in the device instead of a fingerprint scanner. We will have to watch to see what kind of reception that gets from the market and how it works out in real life situations.
Besides the new unique iris scanner security, the Prague S is built with a metal body and has a full HD resolution 5.2-inch display. The unit is powered by a Snapdragon 615 processor. Where the My Prague model had 2 GB and 3 GB options for RAM, the Prague S is only available with 3 GB of RAM. That is matched up with 64 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD compared with the 16 Gb and 32 GB options available on the My Prague. The Prague S also comes equipped with a 13 MP main camera and 8 MP front-facing camera, a 2,200 mAh battery with fast charging capability, support for 4G LTE, and is running Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The Nubia Prague S will go on sale on January 23rd in China for 2,499 Yuan (≈ $380 USD) in Silver and Rose Gold colors. JD.com is currently taking pre-orders for buyers who do not want to wait until the 23rd.
