Panasonic just took wraps off a new camera model. The Lumix CM10 is a very unique camera yet looks just like Panasonic’s older Lumix CM1 model. What makes the Lumix CM10 camera so special is that it’s powered by Android. That’s right! A point and shoot camera that runs Android Lollipop.
Manufacturers like Samsung for example have attempted to create similar devices unifying a camera and a smartphone in the past. However, this can’t make phone calls. The Lumix CM10 doesn’t try to be a smartphone, it looks just like the typical point and shoot camera until you go beneath the surface. The Lumix CM10 can shoot 20MP photos using its 28mm Leica DC lens with a 1-inch imaging sensor. Opposite the lens you’ll find a crisp 1920 x 1080 pixel 4.7-inch touch display. Inside are all the components you would find in a modern-day smartphone. These include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 2,600mAh battery.
Now what’s a camera without storage! The Lumix CM10 has 16GB of internal space and can expanded via a microSD card. You’ll also be able to backup your files to the cloud using the web browser or a cloud storage application right on the camera itself. This can be used when on Wi-Fi or a cellular 3G/4G LTE connection.
The Lumix CM10 is no slouch when it comes to features. Onboard are capabilities such as manual controls and fine control over shutter speeds. The camera can also shoot 4k video. No U.S. release date has been specified just yet, and pricing won’t be cheap. The camera is headed to Japan first, and will go from there.
