Sprint has announced the addition of the Samsung Galaxy J series of devices to the lineups for a couple of their subsidiary carriers, Virgin Mobile USA and Boost Mobile. The first device to be offered will be the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) which is a slightly updated version of the Galaxy J3 that launched in China last fall.
The new smartphone is going on sale starting today through Virgin Mobile USA. Boost Mobile will start offering the device at their retail locations and through some independent retailers on Monday, January 18th and through their online storefront on Tuesday. The Galaxy J3 (2016) will be priced at $179.99 through either carrier.
The updated version of the Galaxy J3 appears to differ from the 2015 model in two areas. First, internal storage has been bumped up from 8GB to 16GB, which is a positive change. However, Samsung has de-tuned the available camera sensors, giving the 2016 version a 5 MP main camera and 2 MP front-facing camera. Those resolutions are down from the 8 MP and 5 MP camera combo that was in last year’s model. Otherwise, the other specs like the 5-inch Super AMOLED display, 1.2GHz processor and 2,600 mAh battery carry over.
