Glyphs

glyphs-overview

Glyphs is an icon pack created by Tokem. It was originally an exclusive to iOS, but a fan decided that it was too good to not share with Android devotees. He got to work and created an Android port, and boy is it beautiful. Sadly, it’s not available on the Google Play Store, but it is available as a APK download from the XDA Developer forums. It’s compatible with both Nova and Apex launchers, and should work with some others. You can grab the APK download below, and once on your smartphone, both Nova and Apex should have no problem recognizing it.

Simply 8-Bit

Want to turn your smartphone into a blast from the past? Then the Simply 8-bit icon pack by Jenning might be just right up your alley. This icon pack is full of very colorful 8-bit style icons and will turn things like Google Chrome and WhatsApp into that awesome graphical style of 90s. This pack contains over 700 icons and is compatible with really any launcher that supports custom icon packs, but Apex, Nova, Holo and ADW are recommended.  It even comes with some awesome Megaman and Link-style wallpapers, though they only seem to work with Apex.

Flatee is a gorgeous icon pack put together by designer Samer Zayer. As the name suggests, the icon pack is full of flat, circular, and colorful icons. There are over 1450 high quality icons in the package, which are all tested to work with the most popular launchers, including Apex, Nova Launcher, Action Launcher and ADW. There’s also a bunch of awesome cloud-based wallpapers included to match the icons.

Lumos

Kovdev has created a lot of great icon packs, and a fan-favorite is the Lumos icon pack. It takes on a shape similar to that of iOS icons, but offers a lot more vibrancy and detail. Many of the icons also have a long shadow, which adds some much-needed dimension to the icons. There are over 2200 high definition icons in the package, and similar to other icon packs, there’s a set of stunning wallpapers served up from the cloud. You’re going to want to download this one in particular, as you’ll really by missing out!

Rage Comic

The Rage Comic icon pack was created by designer Unique Undead, and while it might not be like traditional icon packs, it’s worth having on your phone! Some might find it a little tacky, but others will find it hilarious to outfit their icons with Derpina, Troll Face, and 79 other iconic rage comic faces! Of course, if you’d rather stick to the many different troll faces, Unique Undead has an icon pack for that, too! Both are compatible with all of the regular launchers, including popular ones like Apex and Nova.

CandyCons

Last up in our list for this month is CandyCons by designer Vukašin Anđelković. CandyCons is an icon pack that transforms all of your icons into cute, tiny, and vibrant icons. There are over 800 high definition icons available in the package, as well as twenty great looking wallpapers. Granted, there are a few icons that look a little strange, such as the Play Store icon, but it’s a small complaint in comparison to how much detail was put into this package. It supports all of the popular launchers, and even works with the CyanogenMod Theme Engine.

Installation Process

Installing an icon pack is an easy task. In some cases, you can download an icon pack and it’ll work with the stock launcher. But, in most cases, you’ll need an alternative launcher like the Nova Launcher or Action Launcher.

If you’re using Action Launcher, once you have an icon pack downloaded, open the Action Launcher settings menu. Once there, head into Display > Icon Pack. Select “Icon Pack” and then you can choose from a list of icon packs you have downloaded on your Android device. The process is similar for Nova Launcher.

As you can see, it’s a quick and easy setup, but for a more detailed tutorial, you can click here.

Closing

And that wraps up our top icon picks for the month! Keep in mind that while the Play Store is full of great icon packs, there are plenty more exclusively available on the XDA Forums. On top of that, most icon packs on the XDA Forums are free, though there’s often a suggested donation to help support their work.

What was your favorite icon pack from this past month?
