As of today, Google has made the decision to terminate its Compare site, which will go into effect on March 23rd.
Google Compare came out in March of last year and has been available in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It was used for comparing offers on car insurance, credit cards, and mortgage. The purpose was to make comparing financial services easier for you and me. Google collected most of its revenue from referrals, but also got some of their profits from selling products directly to users. However, it seems that the service failed to reach the popularity they would have liked.
Judging from an email sent to Search Engine Land from Google, the site failed to reach the success Google had hoped for. Google went on to explain that they had trouble selling ads on the site, which ended up being one of the underlying reasons they decided to shut it down.
Google Compare will begin winding down today until it’s officially taken down on March 23rd of this year.
