With two major smartphone manufacturers launching flagship devices today, there are a lot of details to surface over the next few days as people start to get their hands on the devices and test them out. In the case of the LG G5, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, one of the discoveries that was made is that both companies have decided not to implement Google’s adoptable storage options.
Adoptable storage is a feature included in Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Google included this to help users get around internal storage limitations, especially when it comes to dealing with apps. Adoptable storage lets users format a microSD card so that it looks and functions just like it is internal storage. This is more secure memory but it does render the memory card effectively useless in other devices.
The LG G5 retains a microSD card slot for memory expansion, so users can use that for photos, video and music storage. Samsung brings support for microSD cards back to their flagship devices after a hiatus last year which caused quite a bit of criticism of the company.
