Gionee has been releasing some pretty impressive phones recently, and it looks like they are keeping up that trend with the unveiling of its latest flagship phone- the Gionee S8. This phone offers a “loop full-metal design” along with some pretty impressive internals to take on anything you will be throwing at it.

The part that stands out the most to me is the design. The phone is pretty darn good looking, and you can tell that Gionee is very proud of its design work. Gionee is branding the build as “loop full-metal” which basically means that, unlike say the iPhone 6S with its two, very visible, antenna lines on the back of the device, the S8’s antennas surround the full border of the device. These antennas are then painted to perfectly match the color of the device so they can’t even be noticed. It makes for a very clean, striking device. Gionee is also claiming that it is the narrowest 5.5″ phone ever to come to market.

As for the internals, they are pretty beefy. The S8 comes equipped with a 5.5″ 1080p, full HD, AMOLED screen. To power the device you are going to find MediaTek’s octa-core Helio P10 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and then 64GB of internal memory for your storage needs. To keep you going throughout the day Gionee threw in a pretty decent 3,000 mAh battery that can be fast charged at 18W. For security needs you can sign into your device with the fingerprint scanner located under the home button.

To try and differentiate from the rest of the Android market, Gionee is including ‘Force Touch’ in the S8. This is basically the exact same pressure sensitive screen tech that you can find on the iPhone 6S. The screen can recognize three different pressure levels from the user- a touch to select, a tap for previews, and a press to open. At launch this will only work with stock Gionee apps, but they have pledged to work with developers to increase functionality.

The camera looks like it was a point of emphasis on the G8. The back shooter is going to clock in at 16 MP with a very bright f/1.8 aperture. It also comes loaded with an RWB sensor which replaces the normal green pixels with white ones that, according to Gionee, will deliver an 80% reduction in noise and a 40% boost to sensitivity. Another cool feature of the camera is that is comes equipped with OCR (Optical Character Recognition). This technology enables the phone to recognize numbers and letters so that when you take a picture of a document it can automatically make that into a PDF- basically a built in scanner in the camera. There is also a laser autofocus system ensuring a super fast focus time.

As for video capturing, the camera can record Full HD 1080p video with advanced audio capturing technology. Gionee also threw in ‘multi-dimensional’ noise reduction and ‘3D recording’ to make video capturing even better.

On the software side of things you are going to find Google’s latest version of Android, Marshmallow, paired with Gionee’s very own Amigo 3.2 layering. Amigo 4.0 will be launching in June, and they have promised to update the S8 as soon as possible. Gionee’s in house Global SIM roaming service, that recently made its debut, comes built straight in to the device.

For users of Facebook’s popular WhatsApp chat service, Gionee has thrown in a helpful feature. The phone can sync with two separate WhatsApp accounts so that you can have both a personal and a work account synced with the device. This will be helpful for WhatsApp power users, enabling you to keep your life a little more organized.

If you are interested in picking up one of these devices you won’t have to wait to much longer. Gionee stated that the phone will go on sale at the end of March for 449 Euros.

It looks to be a pretty darn impressive device, are you guys at all interested in picking one up?
