Back in August, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was labeled by DisplayMate as the smartphone with the world’s best display among a crowded field. When the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were announced on Sunday, everyone started wondering if Samsung would be able to best the best and give its flagship the title. DisplayMate was even named during the MWC 2016 event because Samsung wanted to prove just how good its displays are. The Galaxy S7 has a 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560×1440) Super AMOLED display, so we know it’s going to be bright and vivid. There was only uncertainty on the matter of how it compares to what Samsung has released in the past.

Samsung must be happy because the company has another winner on its hands as the display of the Galaxy S7 was named by DisplayMate as the best ever.

Here’s what DisplayMate says:

“The display on the Galaxy S7 matches and even exceeds the performance of the Galaxy Note5 that we tested in 2015 and rated as the Best Performing Smartphone Display that we had ever tested.”

The real highlights of DisplayMate’s glowing review came from brightness, contrast, and the always-on display.

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 has a display that can get bright enough to be viewed in any lighting, indoors and outdoors. It can climb up to 855 nits and isn’t very reflective. Devices made by Conversely, the Galaxy S7’s display can get so dim to go as low as 2 nits. Samsung have never really had a problem getting bright and remaining visible, meaning it’s no surprise to see the Galaxy S7 thrive here. Worried about automatic brightness control here? Don’t be. A new system called Personalized Automatic Brightness Control has been implemented in such a way that DisplayMate calls it “the first to do Automatic brightness correctly!”

And since the Galaxy S7 has pixels 24% smaller than the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung was forced to push them out at a level 24% higher to achieve identical brightness and performance.

The always-on display, which we accurately detailed for you prior to the launch, is specifically impressive because of its ability to literally stay on at all times without murdering battery life. Having Super AMOLED technology is the clear reason as to why Samsung can execute such a mighty feature. The Galaxy S7’s display can activate individual pixels when color is needed while leaving all of the others off when black.

Are you one of the many who have pre-ordered the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge? The wait isn’t long because both will be released on March 11.
