Facebook’s Reactions is rolling out globally, whether you like it or not

How many times have you ventured to your Facebook page, seen a post from a friend or relative, and wanted to express your opinion in a way other than clicking the ‘Like’ button? It seems that Facebook has, eventually, listened to its users, and is in the process of rolling out Reactions which allows the user to acknowledge someone’s post with a selection of emotions. Facebook says that Reactions has been in testing for more than a year.

As you can see from the image above, no longer will you be limited to simply the Like button to acknowledge posts on Facebook. Now, you can also choose from Love, HaHa, Wow, Sad, or even Angry to express your feelings. It has always felt a little weird to click the Like button on someone’s sad or crazy post. Hopefully, these new Reactions will go some way to allowing us to acknowledge a post or announcement in a way that is more representative of our feelings. That, or we could just type a comment, or maybe even pick up the phone and call the person, but, hey, this is the 21st century.

You can access the emotive reactions by holding down the like button on your mobile device (or hovering above the Like button for desktop users) and the new reactions will appear for you to choose from. For the moment, at least, it seems that the emotive reactions only appear on the main post, and not for the comments below.

Reactions will begin rolling out on Facebook’s Android and iOS apps from today onwards, as well as on desktop and mobile browsers. You’ll probably need the latest version of the Facebook app installed on your device, so it might be an idea to check if there’s an update available.

It’s a shame that there isn’t a way to ‘dislike’ a post yet, but hey, Reactions is a step in the right direction, at least. What do you think?
