Skype updates its Android application with support for group video calling

skype-play-store-logo

Skype is in the midst of rolling out an update for its official Android client via the Play Store. This upgrade brings group video calling to your handset, in addition to a plethora of much-needed bug fixes, stability improvements and speed optimizations which are all aimed at improving the reliability of placing calls whilst using a cellular connection.

As the Skype user base is so large, Microsoft has been forced to adopt a staged rollout. Accounts in Europe and North America will receive access to the functionality today, whilst those in Asia and South America will be able to use the service next week. Those in Africa and Australia will, unfortunately, have to wait until it becomes available worldwide in March.

If you already have the Skype application downloaded on your smartphone or slate and would like to install the update, simply open up the Play Store, toggle the hamburger menu by swiping in from the left-hand side of your screen, select ‘My Apps’ and click on ‘Skype’, then hit the update button. Alternatively, you can queue the upgrade from your computer by hitting the download link below.
