Even though Sony won’t announce its flagship smartphone at MWC 2016, they’re using the time to showcase a new X-series consisting of the Xperia X, Xperia XA, and the Xperia X Performance.
Sony introduced the X-series to create a smartphone that fits everyone’s needs. The Xperia XA takes a budget approach, where the Xperia X takes it up a notch. The Xperia X Performance is the most high-end of the bunch, meaning it will also be the most expensive. All three handsets borrow the design language from Sony’s most high-end flagship line. This means you’re getting premium materials on whichever handset you choose.
With the X-series in mind, Sony really put its best foot forward in the camera and battery departments. Sony developed a new technology for better auto-focusing that will automatically detect motion and use it as the center of focus. This will enhance the video-taking experience when recording film containing movement. Battery has also been improved with the addition of Qnovo’s adaptive charging technology. This was created in attempt to prolong the battery’s lifespan.
Sony hasn’t revealed all the specifications yet, but here’s what we know. Both the Xperia X and Xperia XA feature 5-inch displays. The Xperia X will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 processor, while Sony’s Xperia X Performance includes the blazing fast Snapdragon 820 chipset. Each smartphone will come in a range of style covers including white, graphite black, lime gold, and rose gold. Check them out in the image gallery down below where the Xperia XA is in white, the Xperia X Performance is in black, and the Xperia X is in gold.
Sony also announced new smart products, one being the Xperia Ear. It’s basically a small piece that goes on your ear that can perform functions like making a call or sending a message. You can also ask it to perform other actions like checking the weather or doing a quick web search. Using Sony’s voice technology, it will respond to you verbally. The Xperia Ear works with a majority of Android devices and will require NFC to pair.
Another one of Sony’s new smart products is the Xperia Projector. This projector is unlike any ordinary projector because the interface responds to touch, gestures, and voice. It works on any clean surface and is amazingly cool. Sony says this will create lovable and memorable experiences because of its creative way to communicate.
Sony also announced the Xperia Eye and Xperia Agent, which are additional tools to help you get involved in the smart world. All the smart products as well as Sony’s new X-Series will be coming to stores this summer. Let’s hope they make it to the United States.
