Hangouts version 8.0 will be receiving an update that adds support for two new features Android N brings.
Android N is still months out before being ready for public consumption; however, a Developer Preview became available yesterday, showing us some neat features, such as Bundled Notifications and Direct Reply.
That said, Hangouts version 8.0 makes use of these new system-level features. The first of these is Bundled Notifications. On Hangouts version 7.0, the “Reply” feature would only work for the bottom most message in the notification panel. Now, users can shift between their now “bundled” Hangouts notifications to reply to each message individually within the notification pane.

The other thing that Hangouts adds in version 8.0 is a true Direct Reply feature. Version 7.0 had a Quick Reply feature, but it wasn’t very functional nor did it work well with the style of Hangouts. Version 8.0 fixes this and implements it very nicely.
This update is very Android N specific, as no no features or fixes seem to be coming to Android 6.0 or below. That said, if you’re running Android N and can’t wait for the update to get to you, be sure to hit the APK download link below.
