Earlier today Google started rolling out an update to their Photos platform on the web to add some new editing tools for users. Now Google has started rolling out an update for the mobile version of Photos on Android devices that focuses on ease of use and some changes to the user interface.
Following similar changes made to the Google Plus app, the updated Google Photos now makes use of a new bottom bar for navigation. Buttons include Assistant, Photos and Albums. Google says this will help users spend more time in the app itself instead of accessing menus.
Users may also note the use of “Albums” as the new term to replace “Collections.” Google says that is based on user feedback. Besides the name change and quick access via the bottom bar, Albums also get a scrolling carousel along the top of the app to access items like people, places, things, animations, collages, movies, device folders and albums.
The update to version 1.15 is available now in the Play Store for Android devices with an update for iOS coming soon. With the new interface changes, some of the information in our latest guide on using Google Photos may no longer apply, but there is still some great info on how to use Photos to back up videos and photos from your mobile devices.
