The Miitomo messaging app from Nintendo has seen numbers rocket, reaching over 100 million registered users in its first three days.
Now sitting pretty at the top of the iOS charts in Japan, Miitomo is Nintendo’s first ever product for mobile devices, allowing users to explore a social network represented by the group’s iconic Mii characters.
Miitomo requires users to be based in Japan for them to access the app, but as long as that requirement’s fulfilled they have access to Mii customization, minigames, picture posing activities and more. Miitomo coins picked up from playing games can be used to buy new clothes and outfits for Mii characters.
A recent tweet from the official Miitomo account confirmed the news that the Android and iOS app had reached 100 million users.
The short time in which that number has been hit comes as a shock, especially when you consider the initial disappointment felt by many after it was announced that Miitomo wasn’t a full game of its own.
Speaking about the new social network, Nintendo has said:
“Want your friends to know all about these little insights into your likes, dislikes, or just what you’re thinking lately? Your Mii will go visit your friends’ Mii characters and tell them! Then your Mii will ask your friends for fun details about them…and tell YOU everything. Your friends’ Mii characters will also visit you when you play!”
In terms of a Miitomo release date for the United States, Nintendo is expected to expand the app’s userbase ‘by the end of March’.
