Verizon will be adding ‘upgrade fees’ next week

A memo has leaked indicating that Verizon will be adding a number of different $20 upgrade fees next week.

Soon, upgrading your device at Verizon will cost you a $20 upgrade fee. This will apply to all who purchase a network compatible device from the U.S. carrier. The $20 upgrade fee must be paid if purchasing a device at full retail price or signing up using Verizon’s Device Payment Plan. This is the one that allows subscribers to split the retail cost of the device itself into equal monthly installment payments. And if you happen to be on Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program, you’ll have to pay the $20 upgrade fee as well.

The only people not getting charged the upgrade fee are those who bring their own Verizon compatible device to the service. The upgrade fees will go into effect for all signing up on Verizon beginning April 4th. So if you’re thinking about buying a device from the U.S. carrier, or want to join the wireless service soon, you have the heads up.
