For the first time ever, Google has made its Developer Preview available on a smartphone other than a Nexus device. That device is the Sony Xperia Z3.
If you happen to own a Xperia Z3 (model D6603 or D6653), and want to try out Google’s upcoming Android N release, you actually can! It seems like Google and Sony worked together to produce a build of Android N that works on the Sony Xperia Z3. Could this be because Sony’s Xperia UI is so close to stock Android? We don’t know. All we know is that you can install the latest Android N Developer Preview on your Xperia Z3 using the Xperia Companion PC software, which can be downloaded here. Just remember to back up your information before heading in.
Step-by-step instructions on how to download and install both the companion software and Developer Preview can be found on Sony’s website. We would really like to see more handsets gain the ability to test Google’s upcoming software in the future, but only Google knows if that’s going to happen. That is why they want feedback, which can be sent from the source link. There you’ll also be able to check out some of the major features coming with Android N.
Are you surprised about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below; I’ll be reading them.
