If you’re a Sprint customer waiting for the BlackBerry Priv to be added to the carrier’s lineup, bad news is here. Sprint, in addition to BlackBerry’s CEO, confirmed that it will not be selling the phone to customers… at all. This comes after plans were set for Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint to join AT&T as carriers offering BlackBerry’s flagship in 2016. Those carriers are all selling the Priv in the United States, but Sprint has backed out after keeping its customers waiting for months.
Hit the break for details.
On Twitter, Sprint’s customer service has had to let multiple customers down by informing them that the Priv is not going to be available through the carrier. It puts the interested customers in a bad position because a special variant of the phone is required to operate on the carrier’s network, which is also the case for Verizon customers wanting to buy the Priv. AT&T and T-Mobile customers, meanwhile, are able to get the variants sold by their carriers or even the unlocked model. That’s because Verizon and Sprint networks are still, at least partially, on CDMA technology while AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM technology.

BlackBerry CEO John Chen even took to Twitter earlier today to repeat the news. Chen’s tweet says “Sprint will not carry PRIV,” pointing people to get the phone from BlackBerry or another carrier.
It’s entirely possible that Sprint is sitting out on selling the Priv to customers because it’s waiting for BlackBerry’s next Android devices, one of which is likely the Vienna.
