Google to scrap YouTube’s webcam upload feature on January 16

Earlier today, Google announced it will be axing YouTube’s integrated webcam upload feature on Saturday, January 16, 2016. According to the search engine giant, the service, which enables users to capture video from their computer’s camera and upload it to the video-sharing platform, is “rarely used” and operates using technology that’s no longer supported — so there’s no real reason for it to be present.

If you’re part of the minority who use this facility, you’re going to need to save footage onto your computer or mobile device first before uploading it to YouTube after the termination date. Doing so couldn’t be simpler, though. You can either use YouTube’s integrated content uploader or the official companion application for Android to get your video stored on the cloud.
