In an earlier leak regarding the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, word surfaced that Samsung was pulling back on the megapixel count for the rear-facing camera. Where the Galaxy S6 devices had a 16MP camera, the new devices working their way to market are supposedly getting 12MP cameras. That rumor seems to have been confirmed by a new listing in the AnTuTu benchmark database for a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that lists the device with a 12MP camera.
Although the megapixel count may be going down, sources indicate the camera will get an improvement in the lens aperture to f/1.7 versus the current f/1.9. That should help with low light situations in particular. Many think Samung’s expertise with processing will also help to make up for the loss of megapixels.
Although the AnTuTu entry may help clarify expectations regarding the camera, it seems to have muddied things up with regarding the screen sizes and versions that will be available when Samsung launches the new line. The entry, which indicates it is for a Galaxy S7 Edge presumably with rounded edges, lists the screen size as 5.1-inches. Previous reports suggested the 5.1-inch size would only be available as a flat screen device with buyers having to move up to a 5.5-inch screen to get a curved display. It is possible the Edge designation in the AnTuTu listing is an error or sources have the wrong model number for an Edge device and this is just a normal, flat-screen Galaxy S7 or this could indicate the earlier indications of which models would be available in which sizes was not correct.
