Facebook and Google have been arguing for some time now, but Facebook is preparing for war. I would have never guessed it has gotten this bad, but Facebook says they are prepared for when/if Google ever kicks their app off the Play Store.
Facebook has been working on different methods to avoid the Play Store in case such an incident does occur. They have already done things like purposely crashed users Facebook Android apps just to see if they would leave Facebook or find another way to access their account. Interestingly, their research showed that users were willing to stay with Facebook no matter what.
Other plans Facebook has are to integrate other mapping alternatives to Google Maps, clone existing Play Store services like in-app purchasing and updates, and the most basic feature, show people how to download Facebook outside of the Play Store.
Currently, we don’t know how bad it is between the two companies, or if Facebook is overreacting, but who knows? Even if Facebook tests show Android users would still use Facebook, I am positive a lot wouldn’t. Also, for Google, dropping Facebook would be a huge blow to the Play Store, especially since Facebook is one of its largest apps.
