Sean Penn chatted with El Chapo using BBM

If you followed the news closely this weekend, then I’m sure you’re acquainted with Sean Penn’s interview with notorious drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, that appeared on the Rolling Stone website Saturday night. What you may not know, however, is that Sean Penn solely depended on BlackBerry’s Messenger service to converse with El Chapo, thereby giving the Canada-based company some of the best publicity it’s had in years.

Penn used the service to communicate with an array of different contacts who eventually supplied him with El Chapo’s PIN. He sent a series of questions to the fugitive, who provided him with some pretty detailed answers. Speaking out on the matter, Penn openly admitted that he’s not a computer guy and doesn’t keep up-to-date with the latest technology trends, but he was able to understand how BBM worked due to its ease of use.
