It’s Sunday, the time of the week when Talk Android brings you a report on some of the very best applications we’ve been using over the course of the past seven days. Today we’re focusing our attention on a fantastic loyalty card database, an engaging animated live wallpaper, a great mobile personal trainer and last, but not least, a reliable score-tracking service.
Stocard
I can’t count how many loyalty cards I possess or the amount of times I’ve ran to the store only to find I’ve left the one I want at home. However, that’s all now a thing of the past thanks to Stocard, which is a fantastic application that enables you to save all your cards on your smartphone or smartwatch — so they’re always with you wherever you go.
Getting started couldn’t be simpler. All you have to do is open up the application, tap the floating “+” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, then scan the barcode on the reverse of your loyalty card. You should then see all of your card details appear in the “My Cards” section. If your chosen card doesn’t feature a barcode, just enter the long ID number, and the app will generate a code that you can use in-store.
You can also view your points balance from all of your reward card accounts in Stocard, which is great as it means you no longer have to run all over the Internet to find out how much you have on your Best Buy and Target cards.
Amazing Spider-Man 2 Live WP
As I’ve mentioned once or twice before, I’m a sucker for a wallpaper. I’m always changing the background on my smartphone to suit my mood, and this past week I’ve been using the official Amazing Spider-Man 2 Live Wallpaper.
This wallpaper is heavily animated. There are several different integrated voice responses, such as “It’s time to plug your charger in” and an hourly announcement of the time, should you wish to activate it.
My favourite feature is the facility to view the percentage of battery life remaining by glancing at the emblem on Spidey’s chest. However, I’m also fond of the text, email and missed call alerts which are displayed a traditional comic book fashion on the home screen. Although, they can get a little distracting.

Updown Fitness
If, like me, one of your New Year’s resolutions was to get into better shape, but you’re struggling to get going, you may want to give the third application we’re looking at this week a whirl. Updown Fitness is an exercise service that puts a fully-fledged personal trainer in your pocket.
This application generates personalized workout plans, complete with animated exercise demonstrations, to help you shed pounds and pack on muscle. These plans include an array of information that’s optimized for your body, including how many reps to do and what weights to use. Updown learns from your progress and will automatically recommend new routines for you to try.
You don’t have to be a member of a fancy gym to use Updown Fitness, either. The app has a section dedicated to those who are working out at home. Simply enter the equipment you own and Updown will generate a workout based on those resources. If you don’t have any weights, for example, it will suggest a variety of different body weight exercises.

theScore
The last application we’re focusing our attention on this week is a must-have tool for all sports fanatics. theScore permits you to create your own personalized feed of sports news, scores and stats, which are all updated in real-time. In addition to following your favorite teams, you can also star individual players that you wish to receive alerts about.
We’ve all been in the situation when our team is playing but we, can’t be around to watch the match. Well, thankfully, theScore has our back thanks to its up to the minute notifications system. Once you’ve configured a list of teams you’d like to receive updates for, you’ll receive an alert for any goals, red cards and penalties to keep you on top of the action.
When you’ve got some spare time on your hands, you can also use theScore to view a comprehensive club history — so during half time you can brag to your friends about how many cups your team’s won or how many goals they’ve scored in total against their rival team.
