An official blog post from the team behind Pocket has confirmed that the app will soon feature ads, which users will be able to hide if uninterested.

According to Pocket’s makers, around 22 million people have saved over 2 billion articles and videos to Pocket in the last three years. Now, the app is growing further, with sponsored posts set to transform the tool.

Discussing the changes in a blog post, a Pocket spokesperson explained that the sponsored content will be ‘high-quality’, ‘transparent’ and dependent on feedback. Apparently, the sponsored posts will feel natural to the overall experience.

Pocket’s makers have said:

“If you see a sponsored post you’re not a fan of, you’ll be able to hide it and give us feedback so we can make it better. If you want to remove sponsored content altogether, Pocket Premium lets you support Pocket’s development and gives you access to additional features, such as an ad-free experience.”

Sponsored content will be marked in a different manner to regular posts, which means it’ll be clear to users of the Pocket app when they’re looking at an ad.

When it comes to user privacy, Pocket will be keeping personal data protected. No sponsor will have access to what a user saves inside the Pocket app, it has been confirmed.

The Pocket team sign off their post by emphasizing that the group is focused on handling sponsored content with care, keen to ensure that the core app experience remains as enjoyable as before.
