The Galaxy S7 and GS7 Edge are featuring a tailor-made camera sensor from Sony, dubbed the IMX260. Both smartphones are also running an in-house audio chip, according to the smartphones’ System Info.
Samsung officially took the covers off of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge on February 21, the first day of Mobile World Congress. During the event, it was revealed that the rear camera was smaller in megapixel count, coming to only 12-megapixels, which is down from its predecessor’s 16-megapixel sensor.
However, this new rear sensor, according to the System Info, is a tailor-made unit from Sony. The IMX260, despite its lower megapixel count, is supposed to be much better than the Galaxy S6’s 16-megapixel camera. The sensor is 1/2.5″ large and boasts of featuring 1.4 microns. Samsung says this allows the smartphone to capture 95% more light than the Galaxy S6’s IMX240 camera sensor.
Beyond hardware, the camera is quite impressive particularly because of Samsung’s Dual Pixel integration. This allows the camera to have insanely fast focusing times, allowing for even quicker shots.
Another element the System Info revealed was that Samsung’s new flagship line is featuring an in-house audio chip solution. The chip, in the System Info, is called Lucky CS47L91 Sound. And supposedly this custom-made DAC is supposed to improve the audio astronomically, though we won’t know for sure until we can really get our hands on it at launch.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will go up for pre-order tomorrow, February 23, and will be available on-demand starting March 11.
