Google announced a project last year that would accelerate mobile pages, which should, theoretically, make things load faster while you’re browsing the web on your phone. Not every site adopted the Accelerated Mobile Pages project, or AMP, but Google is about to start rewarding those that have taken advantage of it.
Starting today, any AMPed pages in a search for a specific topic or story will be listed first in Google Search results. This should drastically improved the mobile browsing experience, since those pages that are using AMP will load significantly faster on a smartphone or tablet. AMP makes things load so quickly that you’ll even be able to swipe through stories without any significant delays, almost like a native app.
Google claims AMP will make things load four times faster and use ten times less data, both of which are great benefits for users and the websites. Hopefully it drives more sites to take advantage of the open source project.
