MWC 2016 is still on the go in Barcelona, and the latest news is that the Chinese handset maker, Xiaomi, has officially announced its latest flagship, the Mi 5. As expected, the Mi 5 uses the Snapdragon 820 processor, has a fingerprint scanner, while it also boasts curved edges and a ceramic rear panel. There are three variants of the Mi 5, so join us after the break for the rest of the features and specifications.
Looks-wise, the Mi 5 has some style; the side bezels appear impressively thin and the body of the 128GB version is made out of a material that Xiaomi describes as “3D ceramic”, along with a metal frame. Xiaomi has obviously taken some measure of inspiration from Samsung’s Galaxy S6 flagship for the curved edges of the Mi 5, which is somewhat reinforced by the position of the home button that doubles up as the fingerprint scanner. That being said, the Mi 5 is a good looking phone.
On to the hardware, and Xiaomi is offering the Mi 5 is 3 variants and while all three models are powered by the new Snapdragon 820, there are differences in the amount of RAM, internal storage, and even the speed that the processor is clocked at. The cheapest version sports 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 820 clocked at 1.8GHz and is priced at around $305. The middle variant costs roughly $350 and has 64GB of storage, 3GB of RAM, with its Snapdragon 820 clocked at 2.15GH. The top-end version has 128GB storage, 4GB of RAM, the higher-clocked SD820 processor, and is priced at around $458.
