During its MWC 2016 event, Sony announced the Xperia X series with three new phones. The Xperia XA, Xperia X, and Xperia X Performance each have impressive specifications for different consumers, but we were left wondering whether or not the company would continue on with launching the Xperia Z6. Now that the Xperia X series has arrived with moderately high-end specifications, it doesn’t seem like there’s a reason for the Xperia Z6 or any of its potential variants to exist.
Sony responded on Facebook to a concerned consumer who was really hoping to see the Xperia Z6. The response isn’t good for anyone with similar hopes.
Here’s what Sony said on Facebook, which we used Google Translate to understand:
A Z6 will not exist. The new X series is under a modified concept that meets the needs of our users even more accessible.
Best regards,
Your Sony team
And of course a massive amount of people commented after seeing Sony’s response because the Xperia X Performance doesn’t necessarily meet their wants from a flagship. The Xperia Z6 Performance has a 5-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display while most current flagships have a slightly larger display with Quad HD (2560×1440) resolution.
The last we heard about the Xperia Z6 was that two models were inbound for sometime in 2016. Now we probably won’t get any Xperia Z6 models at all.
