Pressure sensitive screens may be the next big thing

Pressure sensitive screens are yet to take off, but this may be about to change.

There have been a few smartphones here and there that have pressure sensitivity built-in, but nobody has created a significant use for it. According to a new report, chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, Meizu, Oppo and, Vivo are gearing up for a pressure sensitive screen revolution. Believe it or not, a rumor has begun spreading that an upcoming HTC made Nexus will feature the tech, meaning it will be adopted natively in Android N. This may be the mysterious HTC Nexus device that surfaced a while back.

Android N, currently nameless, will be Google’s next iteration of their mobile OS. Apple has already adopted pressure sensitivity into their mobile OS, iOS. Those at Google may have ideas in mind that take better advantage of the technology. Rumor is that Google will include it in Android N, which is due out in May. If this happens, all Android manufacturers will have to include the technology in future handsets in order to add this function. Hopefully Google will open up an API so that developers can build apps that implement the new technology as well. This will all have to fall into place if Google wants the new tech to be crowned useful and not just a gimmick. We’ll see what we get in a few months.
