Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge don’t support Quick Charge 3.0

While the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge include Quick Charging, they fail to include Qualcomm’s latest in Quick Charge 3.0.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge from last year shipped with Quick Charge 2.0 built-in. What this does is it allows the phone to be charged at a faster rate with the use a certain charger. While Samsung did up the Galaxy S7 duo to include support for fast wireless charging, they didn’t implement Quick Charge 3.0. This is surprising to us because Samsung typically doesn’t leave things out of its flagships. Especially considering that the S7 duo was designed to improve upon the internals found inside the Galaxy S6 models.

Sources believe that the reason behind this is due to the lack of support with their own chipsets. You may recall that some Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge units come with Samsung’s Exynos 8890 processor. Since this chipset isn’t manufactured by Qualcomm, it lacks support for Quick Charge 3.0. While Samsung could have implemented the charging into some of their S7 units, they choose not too. Perhaps this is because they wanted to be fair to all users.

The difference between Quick Charge 3.0 and the older Quick Charge 2.0 is not that significant and probably won’t be noticed by all users. But it would have been nice to have. We’ll add it to our want list for the Galaxy Note 6.
