Vizio has developed a new platform based on Google Cast called SmartCast. The technology will allow TV’s and speakers to play audio wirelessly from connected devices like smartphones, tablets, and even some wearables.
The Crave 360 is one of Vizio’s new speakers that will include SmartCast technology. This speaker is portable and reminds us of Amazon’s newly released Echo speaker. If you’re looking for something more premium, the Crave Pro is more of a box-shaped speaker and is not meant to be shuffled around. As you may guess, the Crave Pro supports louder and higher-quality audio than the Crave 360, but will come at an extra cost. The company is also working on a home theater system that supports the functionality that’ll include a soundbar and subwoofer.
The devices operate using Google Cast, which is supported on most Android and iOS devices. Google Cast is supported in lots of apps including Pandora, iHeartRadio, Google Play Music, and many others. You can also push audio to either of the new speakers using Bluetooth if the app you want to use doesn’t incorporate Google Cast functionality. Pricing on the two models is yet to be announced, but Vizio did confirm a release for later this year.
