Xiaomi looks to increase production of the Mi 5 after selling through first batch of inventory

Xiaomi_Mi-5 (2)Xiaomi is known for very quickly selling through their allotted inventory on phones, and the Mi 5 is no exception. The company prepared millions of units for the 16 million registered buyers, but sold through the stock within minutes of the Mi 5 going on sale. Estimates say that could’ve been up to 4 million, but regardless of the number, there were still plenty of disappointed customers that walked away without a phone.

Now Xiaomi is trying to get production ramped back up for the Mi 5 by asking Foxconn and Inventec to make more phones to try and meet the insane demand for their current flagship. Even if they manage to get more devices in production, it will probably still be months before all pre-orders and filled, and even longer before they become generally available to anyone to buy.

Long story short, if you were expecting to buy one of these outside of China, you’re in for a very, very long wait.

Xiaomi’s Mi 5 features a 5-inch, 1080p display with a Snapdragon 820 CPU and 3 GB of RAM. At its cheap price point, it’s not surprise the Mi 5 flew off the shelves.
