Samsung has begun sending press invites out for a January 21 event in New Delhi, India, where the company plans to announce the launch of the Gear S2 in the region.
The invite sent out to press doesn’t offer many details other than a time, date, and picture of a circular smartwatch. Since the Gear S2 has already been readily available for months now, it’s not hard to make out that it’s the Gear S2.
Samsung scheduled the event for 11:00am local time on January 21. A report from PhoneRadar indicates that Samsung could unveil the Gear VR’s expansion to India at the same event.
Samsung’s Gear S2 is based off of the company’s proprietary Tizen OS. While it’s not an Android Wear smartwatch, it will work with all of Samsung’s latest smartphones as well as most Android-based solutions on Android KitKat with 1.5GB of RAM in tow.
The Korean tech giant has plans to bring iOS compatibility to it later this year.
The Gear S2 has been Samsung’s most popular smartwatch, selling over 180,000 units only hours after its official launch.
