Some older Samsung devices get banned due to patent infringements

Apple-vs-Samsung-lawsuit1

Samsung has had to deal with many product bans in recent years. Many in which are due to a violation of patents held by another manufacturer.

When a sales ban comes up, the first names that come to mind are Samsung and Apple. Both companies are constantly going at it in the courts. Just this week, the US District Judge Lucy Koh outlawed a number of Samsung’s smartphones. The court found that each of these devices infringed on some of Apple’s utility patents. Some issues that Samsung has had to deal with in the past regard quick links, automatic word corrections and slide-to-unlock.

The sales ban will take place in the United States and contain only older Samsung models. The list of banned devices consists of the Galaxy Nexus, both the first and second generation Galaxy Note, the Galaxy S2, the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, the Samsung Stratosphere, and most notably, the Galaxy S3.

Even though the sales ban of these older models doesn’t seem too harsh, they could contribute to further implications down the road. Battling back, Samsung appears to be onto the next step already. Today, several manufacturers in the industry decided to back Samsung in their case. Who knows where this will lead.

This probably won’t be the last time we hear about this battle, so stay tuned to our website for all the coverage as it happens.
